We have researched the SSL certification companies, primarily Verisign, thawte (a Verisign-owned company), Comodo and GeoTrust. We've now concluded our evaluation and come down in favour of thawte for almost all SME-level enterprises. We assess the combination of technology capability, ease of operation and value-for-money to be in favour of thawte.
This level of SSL certification provides the consumer with security for data transfer in all communications between them and your website, both ways. It is not a requirement of the SafeBuy Code of Practice but for many consumers, who read the press reports on 'phishing', 'pharming' etc. it certainly does provide an additional guarantee of security. Many web retailers already use this kind of certification.
